The events I’ve just described within that hypothetical scenario set the stage for the events of a game I hold near and dear to my heart, namely Red Hook Studios’ Darkest Dungeon. Should you choose to heed their words, the task of eliminating this corrupting evil falls upon your shoulders. Having failed in that endeavor, your family member beseeches you to return to your family’s home and succeed where they could not. Your family member proceeds to explain that they have squandered your family’s fortune in an attempt to unearth and eradicate unspeakable horrors from beneath the land upon which your ancestral home is perched. In the end, a single strategy dilutes practically everything people complain about regarding CC.Imagine, if you will, that one day you receive a letter from one of your distant family members in which they bequeath to you your ancestral home, as it is your birthright. In reality, CC's just as learnable (and regrettably cheesable) as the core experience itself - but ultimately a bunch of new layers and factors you need to learn to conquer. While there are legitimate negatives and detractors, you'll find a lot of reviews are mired in semi-related problems or bad first-time impressions, such as the "CC is obscenely difficult" crowd when played all-activated + blind. Not everyone is going to enjoy doing so because it's a self-proclaimed difficult and punishing game that absolutely does have a mountain of knowledge to learn, so doing all at once is going to lead to pain and misery for first timers seeing as the DLC is designed to be played from the start as part of a new save (rather than experienced at a mid or end-point of a normal playthrough when players are more experienced).ĭLC is entirely worth it (imho). One mistake a lot of people make is buy the entire package and activate everything immediately. If money is a concern, grab it on a sale, but do so AFTER you've tried the core experience by itself. As others have said, the DLC is all equal-quality to (and more of) the core experience, so if you like the base game, chances are you'll enjoy the DLC as well.
